To argue someone into, or out of, Christianity is a waste of breath. If someone is a Christian, (as I am) it is because I was convinced beyond doubt that it is true: This did not come from a human. My role is not to make someone else believe it: My role is, to the best of my ability, to love all people as myself, treat people with respect and dignity, and carry on. Works for me! ;)

Most of what you said is wrong, especially about science.

Hitler was Catholic, and while Stalin and Mao were atheists, they did not kill in the name of atheism, but for power. The inquisition, the crusades, the Salem witch trials, etc were done explicitly in the name of god. It is good to get your history knowledge from places other than christian apologetic websites.

The bible is not the most reliable writing we have today, it is a book of parables from desert dwelling nomads in the bronze age.

We base our morals on the same thing everyone else does, a reasoned and agreed upon social morality.

We do not have a purpose here except that which we make for ourselves.

The field of genetics PROVES that evolution occurred and confirms many of the predictions made by Darwin and others.

Every article I have read in regards to the decline of Christianity tries to explain the reasons for the mass exodus while avoiding the obvious. Christianity is declining simply because the population is becoming more educated and therefore less vulnerable to manipulation. The behavior of christian leaders are to blame. The fundamental problem is: Christians believe that their leaders are chosen by God and therefore can never be openly challenged. This, along with a complete lack of organization makes it virtually imposable for the Christian religion to police their own. The Church used to have a purpose which was to help the communities they are located in. Now, the primary goal of most churches is to grow, expand and accumulate wealth and real-estate. No one could argue that most aid to the poor now comes from the Government. It evolved into this simply because the churches and the Christian Leadership are for the most part engaged in self-enrichment. I sent a homeless friend of mine to Seminole Presbyterian church in Tampa, Florida for help and he was referred to a government run homeless shelter. The Pastor said the church did not have the resources to help him in any way. I was a member of that church for 20 years. I happen to know that the church holds around 7 million in real-estate and approximately 3 million in cash reserves. It made me sick. What does the Church and the Christian religion as a whole have to offer young people and older disenfranchised people? Another place to give away money they don't have? I worked in the Church and saw leadership inflict irreparable harm and damage on people they did not like only to explain they are imperfect and forgiven. This is called conducting yourself in a manner that does not command respect. People now days see Christianity for what it is and they are turned-off by it. It's an exclusive club. A ponzi scheme if you wish. They can be more ruthless than non-religious people. They simply no longer do a good job so the Government does it instead. I no longer attend church or give money to the church. The question I have is: If the Government is helping people and the Church is not, why tax myself twice? Why pay the Church? I know if I fall, the help I will receive from the Church will be inadequate. In contrast, the Government will provide financial help to get me back on my feet. That to me is worth it's weight in gold so I gladly pay taxes. Churches should also pay taxes because it was them who shifted the burden to the Government. Young people are young, not stupid. They simply don't like what they see. I'm 48 years old and I can't say that I blame them. The sad fact is, you cannot trust Christians. Their basic message is, we offer eternal life. Who are you to expect anything from us?

Christian churches have being focusing more and more on topics instead of the Word (Bible) as a whole. We no longer study the books like Matthew and Romans but focus individually on topices. We no longer sing Psalms or songs that are in the Bible thinking that our songs are better than what is in the Bible. The topics are disjointed and people, especially children, are left trying to tie the strings of topics together. We need to fervantly focus on the Bible as a whole or else we will be unprepared for what's coming. All (not some more than others) Scripture is breathed by God and is useful for.... WE NEED TO TEACH THE WHOLE BIBLE instead of convenient topics!!

This isn't a bad thing. People are simply realizing that a religion innately based on fear instead of love is no longer relevant. Yes, I know it touts love, but it's merely love of religion, not the unconditional love for others that Christianity loves to talk about, and simultaneously loves to ignore. Dogmas are simply archaic, they're not needed. In fact, dogmas provably constrain morality, not provoke it, and people are simply being honest with themselves about how problematic this untenable system is. Mind you, this all comes from a former Christian, who was exceedingly sincere and devout in their beliefs. It was in fact the same sincerity and love for honesty that led me away from it. There is no fear in love? I agree. But apply that to common Christian beliefs, and you'll soon develop a lovely case of cognitive dissonance. I like Christ. Christ is great, have nothing against him. Was he the son of God? No idea. Does it matter? Not really. What matters are ideas, and what ideas produce in people. Remember a tree bears fruit after its own kind? Ideas do that. You have to see what fruit ideas produce. And fundamentalist Christianity consistently produces terrible fruit. It's simply too evident to ignore. Hence the premise for your article.
